What is Cellulose Insulation
Cellulose insulation is the oldest form of home insulation. It is a plant fiber used in wall and roof cavities to insulate, draught proof and reduce free noise. They are made from either 75 to 85 percent ground-up recycled newsprint or recycled denim. The fiber is heavily treated with non-toxic borate compounds around 15 percent by volume to resist fire.
Cellulose Fire retardation
Despite being made from wood or recycled paper, cellulose insulation does not make your home vulnerable to fire. Cellulose insulation is treated with ammonium sulfate, borax, or boric acid, an effective flame retardants that help reduce pest issues and meet all governmental safety requirements.
Cellulose insulation can be used in both existing homes and new construction. It can be applied as loose-fill insulation or blown-in insulation in attic cavities, enclosed existing walls, open new walls, floors and unfinished attic floors or wet spray for new construction that helps increase heat retention and to reduce noise levels.
Cellulose insulation can be installed in different thickness applications. This characteristic allows it to fit well in tight spaces between walls, ductwork, and electrical wires.
